Secondary leagues get under way this weekend

The new secondary league for clubs in Mayo is due to get under way this weekend. The new league, which was introduced after a vote at the county convention, is aimed at keeping club players in action during the national league and championship while the inter-county players are tied up with Mayo teams.

Draw for Mayo GAA Championships made

The draw for the 2010 Mayo club championship's was made in the TF Royal on Wednesday night. The full list of groups in the senior, intermediate and junior championships is below. In each group the first two teams named will play in the first round with the first team having home advantage and the third and fourth named teams will play in the first round with the third placed teams having advantage. Mayo Club Championships -Quarter finalists emerge in club championship

After a long lay-off there was a hectic weekend of action on the club championship front last weekend, with the quarter-finalsts in the senior competition all being decided. Section A saw Ballintubber join the already qualified Charlestown in the last eight thanks to a 2-12 to 2-8 win over Garrymore. Crossmolina had already navigated their way into the knockout stages of the competition before the last round and it was down to a straight shoot out between Ballinrobe and Knockmore to see who would join them. In a tight battle in Flanagan Park it was the north Mayo men who came out on top.

€1.38 million for Mayo in Government Sports Grants Scheme

Funding for Mayo sporting clubs and organisations under the Government’s Sports Grants Scheme has been announced this week by Beverley Flynn TD, who has also urged disappointed clubs to contact her to begin the process of reapplying for next year.
