Westport is no stranger to success at national Tidy Towns awards over the years, and next weekend, Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25, the town will host the 2017 National Tidy Towns Conference. The conference is a unique opportunity for Tidy Towns groups around the country to learn from and share their experiences with other Tidy Towns communities nationwide. There will also be guidance on the preparation for the 2017 competition and it will feature three lectures from three national tidy town adjudicators.

Mayo towns achieve good returns at Tidy Towns awards

Westport came close to once again scooping the top prize for the fourth time at the national Tidy Towns awards, which were announced on Monday, but it missed out on the title coming in just two points behind the overall winner Skerries. Westport finished up with 325 marks, an increase of three on the number it got in 2015, but the north Dublin town ended up with 327 marks.

Castlebar falls in IBAL anti-litter league

The latest survey by business group Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) shows Castlebar in joint 35th position in the ranking of 40 towns and cities and deemed “littered”. The town was judged to be ‘clean’ and finished in 23rd spot in last year’s rankings.

Galway regains its ‘clean’ rating in latest IBAL litter survey

Galway has shown a noticeable improvement in tackling litter in the final Irish Business Against Litter survey of 2015, published this week. The city was found to be clean to European norms, and ranked joint 25th among 40 towns and cities surveyed.
