NUIG works with high-tech companies to offer longer work-placements to increase student employability

In a significant development for engineering education and following extensive consultation with industry partners, the NUI Galway College of Engineering and Informatics has announced that the duration of the Professional Experience Programme (PEP) for third year Biomedical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering students will be extended to eight months in duration. Students will now undertake work placement in leading local, national, and international high-technology companies, including medical device companies, from January to August, starting in 2015.

Free places on social media applications and sales course at AIT

The Department of Lifelong Learning at the Athlone Institute of Technology has announced that it has received funding from Springboard to fund 25-plus part-time places on its newly developed certificate in social media applications and sales, HETAC Level 6, one year, part-time programme. The programme will be delivered in AIT over 16 hours delivered on Thursday and Friday, with the occasional Saturday, for one year commencing this December 12. The application deadline is Friday November 29.

PQ response shows public sector jobs substituted by JobBridge cheap labour — Ruane

Speaking this week in response to parliamentary question responses received from the office of the Minister for Social Protection, Sinn Féin councillor Thérèse Ruane has said has said that real jobs in the public sector are being displaced by cheap labour provided by JobBridge interns. She said “Here in Mayo, 152 cheap interns are being exploited under the JobsBridge scheme in public sector bodies while 44 JobBridge interns are being used by Mayo County Council.”
