Kyne welcomes progress on environmental review clearing way for Claregalway Flood Relief Works

Fine Gael TD for Galway West and Mayo South Seán Kyne has welcomed confirmation from the Office of Public Works’ Minister, Simon Harris that the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform will this month sign off on the environmental review which has delayed works on the Claregalway Flood Relief Scheme.

The proposed Brighter Evenings Bill, which was debated in Dáil Éireann on Friday last, would have negative consequences for the West if enacted. The bill, introduced by Independent TD, Tommy Broughan, proposes to put clocks permanently forward by one hour and bring Ireland into line with Central European Time.

Kyne concerned at delay in Civil Registration Act review

Fine Gael’s Galway West Deputy Seán Kyne has expressed concerns at the delay in amending the Civil Registration Act to allow for the registration of the deaths of Irish people who die abroad. In May and June of 2010, the Galway-based Bring Them Home campaign group met with the then Minister for Social Protection, Éamon Ó Cuiv, who committed to a review so the legislation could be changed.

Man questioned over jockey arson death released from bail

UK police investigating last month’s suspected arson attack which resulted in the tragic deaths of two promising jockeys, including Claregalway teen Jamie Kyne, have released from bail a man who had been questioned over the incident.
