Countdown continues to Connacht semi-final

Everyone expected that it would be Leitrim that came visiting to McHale Park on Sunday, June 24 in the Connacht semi-final. But it was only by the skin of their teeth that they got out of London with the win. The annual trip to Ruislip is becoming a tricker and tricker encounter as Mayo can attest to following last year’s extra time battle and it was something very similar last Sunday when a late Leitrim surge saw them go home 0-12 to 1-8 winners.

Injuries and comebacks ahead of Galway game

Last weekend’s opening round of action in the senior and intermediate club championship gave the Mayo management team a chance run their eye over a number of players who were coming back from injuries. Midfielder Ronan McGarrity came through Ballina’s defeat to Shrule-Glencorrib unscathed, but it may be too soon for the influential player to make the starting 15. Seamus O’Shea, who is another option for the middle of the park, also put in a full shift for Breaffy in their win over Ballinrobe alongside his brother Aidan who lined out in midfield in a recent challenge game against Donegal. Keith Higgins also got back on the road to recovery after his recent hamstring injury when he started for Ballyhaunis, while Neil Douglas and Enda Varley also came through their games for Castlebar Mitchels and Garrymore

The Swinford electoral area will receive €580,000 worth of the €3.5 million investment in Mayo roads that was announced last week. Paul Dolan of Mayo County Council told a meeting of the Swinford Electoral Area committee this week that two separate projects had been identified in the area. The two roads which will receive the funding are the R322 from Kiltimagh to Kilkelly, which will get €360,000 extra funding, and the L1907 from Urlar towards Kilmovee which has been allocated an extra €220,000.
