Visitors to www.logainm.ie can now listen to sound files that have been added to 713 placenames in Mayo. Sound files in Irish and English have been added to the names of the baronies, civil parishes, and electoral districts as well as the names of some physical features.

€160,000 sanctioned in north Mayo for rural recreational projects

Fine Gael leader Dep Enda Kenny has welcomed funding sanctioned by the Department of Community, Rural, and Gaeltacht Affairs to Mayo County Council for providing and upgrading rural recreational projects in north Mayo. This funding will be used to extend the North Mayo Coastal Trail and develop a linear cycle route as part of the national cycle network as well as improved signage, parking, and toilet facilities in certain areas. It will form part of the €750,000 investment by Fóram Pobail Iarthuaisceart Mhaigh Eo’s plan for the area.

Rith 2010 coming to Mayo

Rith 2010, a relay run around Ireland to promote the Irish language, will be coming to county Mayo, on Tuesday March 16 2010. The Rith 2010 runners will travel through 100 kilometres in Mayo from Claremorris, Knock, Kiltimagh, Bohola, Bellavary, Turlough, and Castlebar, finishing up in Westport.
