The St Joseph’s club were well represented in the national multi—events Championships held in Tullamore at the weekend. Athletes from the club took part in seven of the events and while amassing high scores in most they claimed medals in four – one gold, two silver and one bronze. In the under 14 pentathlon Paul Manning scored 2,345 points to win the silver medal.

Saturday, Day three of the All-Ireland Juvenile Track and Field Championships, had a successful outcome for a number of Kilkenny athletes. It had special significance for Sophie Parkinson, Gowran, and Paul Manning, St Joseph’s. Both athletes collected their second gold medal of the championships.

Gowran racing was cancelled due to rain

The racing at Gowran Park was cancelled on Wednesday last due to waterlogging following a course inspection by Irish Turf Club officials.

Joanne Cuddihy continued her return to form with gold and silver performances down under. Competing in the New Zealand track and field championships in Christchurch at the weekend she took first place in the 400m and second in the 200m. Her times were 52.84 and 24.02 respectively.

The St Patrick’s Day 5K DASH organised by Kilkenny City Harriers and Kilkenny Fit4Life Club proved to be an enjoyable and very successful event with just over 250 taking to the road and a further 100 plus juveniles on the track. Mayor Malcolm Noonan started the run which commenced at The Watershed and followed a course along the Bennettsbridge Road, a circle of The Castle Park and back to The Watershed.
