Bawnmore Cross — Are we waiting for schoolchildren to die?

Last week another truck overturned at Bawnmore Cross in Claregalway, spilling its load of huge logs across the road, onto the walls and into a field. This was the thirtieth time that an accident has happened here in the past few years, but the more remarkable fact is that nobody has yet been killed, given its proximity to a local national school. Last week, Cllr Malachy Noone said that it is only a matter of time before we see a school uniform trapped under those logs and now locals have said they have had enough.

Athlone conference to hear findings into origins of brown trout

Inland Fisheries Ireland in collaboration with Queen’s University Belfast will present the findings of a three-year research study into the genetic make-up of Ireland’s brown trout and sea trout populations at a one-day conference at the Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone, on October 17.

Nerve and Sinew exhibition at Custom House Studios

Custom House Studios in Westport are pleased to present Nerve and Sinew, a collection of paintings by artists Betsy Stirratt and Chanelle Walshe. The exhibition opened this week and will run at the studio until Sunday, July 9. Tomorrow, Saturday, June 17 both artists will be at the Custom House Studios to talk about their work with Alice Maher at 2pm.
