The Architecture at the Edge Festival will take place in Galway and Mayo this weekend. The festival, designed to help citizens understand the many ways architecture impacts our lives, will feature a weekend of online lectures, interviews, exhibitions, and panel discussions - all live and all free.

The year 2020 will be remembered for the outbreak of Covid-19 around the globe and the boundaries which the Government had to impose on the population; boundaries of 2km and 5km from our homes; boundaries from visiting our elderly relatives and those in high risk categories; boundaries from socialising with friends; and boundaries from exploring the world.

One of the most important but underrated festivals that populates our calendar here in the west is Architecture at the Edge. When it first came about, one friend said to me “oh good, another chance to see into people’s houses, to see how the other half lives, to see how the other half builds.”
