A Mayo animal rescue charity is appealing for donations to help cover the huge cost of spaying and neuturing the county’s stray and feral cat population.
Athlone Animal Welfare (AAW) have announced a fundraising bowling night for Saturday April 12. The proceeds from the event will be used to support the charity’s spay and neuter scheme, and their public assistance programme. Both initiatives have been very successful over the past year but funding pools are now exhausted.
A cat resue charity is calling on people in Mayo to spay and neuter cats, even strays on their property, because there is a “cat population crisis” in the county.

I’ve never owned a dog. I’m fond of other peoples, but, like children, it’s good to be able to hand them back to their owners/parents at the end of a visit. I almost bought a King Charles once, but a veterinary friend advised me against it. “You’ll end up handing me a fortune, those purebreds are all inbred and pick up all sorts of sicknesses. Get yourself a mongrel instead.”
