The quality of the water at all four designated bathing areas in Galway city - Salthill, Silverstrand, Grattan Road, and Ballyloughane - has been given a positive report for the 2021 season.

Irish Water working in partnership with the Galway City Council has commenced remedial works at the Long Walk which will improve water quality in the area, provide environmental benefits, and reduce the presence of wet wipes along the River Corrib.

Irish Water and Mayo County Council would like to remind customers supplied by the Achill Pubic Water Supply, including group water schemes, that the boil water notice issued on the supply on February 1 to accommodate the next phase of the planned works at the Achill Water Treatment Plant, is still in place.

Concerns have been raised over long term plans for water quality at Ballyloughane following the Environmental Protection Agency report on the water quality of Galway's city rivers and water networks.

Irish Water and Mayo County Council have advised customers supplied by the Achill Pubic Water Supply, including group water schemes, that a boil water notice for the duration of six weeks will be issued on the supply, starting from 9am on February 1, to accommodate the next phase of the planned works at the Achill Water Treatment Plant.

Galway City Council will continue to monitor a problem with wet wipes gathering at Claddagh Beach.
