Art legend Don Conroy has teamed up with Sightsavers Ireland to remind Westmeath primary schools to get painting for the third annual Sightsavers Junior Painter Awards which closes on Wednesday November 23. The competition is designed to help children understand the importance of their own sight and there are fantastic prizes of Art & Hobby gift vouchers for winning students and their schools, art kits for all regional winners, and the chance for their artwork to appear at an awards day in Dublin early next year.

Toyota Ireland tells us that it wishes to spark the imaginations of kids around Ireland with their newly launched Dream Car Art Contest. It is a national art competition for under-16s that will put 15 young aspiring artists in with a chance to compete on a global stage for a once in a lifetime trip to Japan, as well as win fantastic prizes such as games consoles and art supplies.

Whilst its reputation of old is as a supperhouse/tavern, the Hole in the Wall is becoming a centre of arts in its current resurrection.

Against all the odds, the Hole in the Wall has been re-opened to the public as a wine bar and a stunningly intimate venue for musicians and theatrical escapades. The old house which was initially the inner section of an L-shaped mansion originally build by Martin Archer in 1582, has been lovingly restored to its former glory and today still looks as it might have looked in the 16th century.

A fun-filled evening of storytelling and art workshops with Don Conroy is due to take place at the Hole In The Wall, Kilkenny on Saturday February 26.
