Cosmetic trends

image preview

If you ever want to know what the very latest trends in cosmetics are, swing by the MAC counter in Brown Thomas. New on counter at the minute is the Wonder Woman collection, complete in comic book style packaging. It includes the supersized mineralised skin finish, eyeshadows, lipsticks, and powder blushers. Readers of this column will not be at all surprised to know my favourite item in this collection is the Reflex Glitter, in pearl and bronze. Though a plain and simple girl in most ways, and already owning four Bobbi Brown shimmer brinks, I could not resist this glitter. I tend to think glitter has mystical powers and improves all circumstances. This one is unreal. It can be used over a creamy eye shadow to add dimension or over cream blush to highlight. The sparkles practically dance on the skin, I love it. If you are baring your shoulders you can dust it over the tops of your arms (when a MAC make up artist suggests you to go sparingly, you know you may have gone a bridge to far with it in the past).

Girls’ guide to eyes

The first signs of ageing appear around the eyes, and with that in mind it is a good idea to find a combination of products that work to streamline your efforts and deliver the best results. This week I road tested products in Brown Thomas’ cosmetics hall (the female version of an episode of Top Gear?) under the categories of eye creams, concealers, eye shadows, eyeliners, brushes, and mascara. Below are the ones that I think are just perfect.

A Good Foundation

Twenty-one beauty tricks

1. Experiment with different foundations. You can mix two together to get the perfect result. When choosing a foundation opt for one that suits your skin type. Do you have a shiny or dehydrated complexion or is it balanced? Are some fine lines creeping in around your eyes and lips? A natural looking foundation will enhance your colouring and disguise any imperfections. If you are buying a new shade test it on your jawline to ensure there is no difference between your face and neck colour.

Notes for the Season

If you are currently looking in the mirror at skin you just know could be better, and a make-up routine that needs a bit of revamping, you could not have picked a better time to reassess. We are now living in a revolutionary era for skincare and cosmetics, with more and more products delivering exactly what they promise. Box clever! Getting serious about your skincare (you will know when the time comes) involves investing in a few hardworking luxury products like Crème de Mer eye concentrate — it actually quenches and reconditions the delicate eye area while reducing the appearance of dark circles and puffiness, and of course Elizabeth Arden’s Prevage anti ageing serum — packed with powerful antioxidants, it gives great results on wrinkles, age spots, and scarring. The ingredients are powerfully concentrated, and you will find a little goes a long way, there is no need to lash it on. You know what area needs the most help and that is where to invest in a superior product.

Waken up tired eyes

Dark circles under the eyes are a telltale sign of being tired. Whether due to working late, a night out or lack of sleep, the eye is one of the first places where tiredness takes its toll.

Three in four women say they have localised skin imperfections, while one in two women say that they suffer from dark circles.

Eye Style

A woman’s eyes have the power to allure and seduce as well as to dazzle and to smile and best of all they are the most natural and often best feature of her face.
