Tickets for the Salthill Park concert by English folk-pop band Mumford & Sons go on sale this Saturday at 9am.

Tomorrow night Saturday, March 10, sees The Clubhouse at Castlebar Celtic get its official launch party when the brilliant Delorentos will be bringing their Little Sparks Tour to the county town. The aim of Castlebar’s new music venue is to promote some of the best independent local and national original artists and bands over the coming months, with two major international acts to be announced for the independent music venue over the coming weeks. Castlebar’s music scene will be getting a much needed injection and a further lease of life.

SENEKAH, the Irish indie-rock quartet, will play Kelly’s Bar on Bridge Street this Saturday at 8pm, as part of a tour to promote their new single ‘Human Relations’.

KELLY’S BAR on Bridge Street has been putting on some fine gigs of late and there is another excellent one coming up on Friday March 9 when acclaimed US singer-songwriter Gretchen Peters takes to the stage.

MICHAEL WINSLOW, a stalwart of the Police Academy films, a voice on Robot Chicken, and a man whose vocal chords can create any sound imaginable, is coming to Galway.

This photograph of the sleepy village of Salthill was taken about 100 years ago. In the mid nineteenth century, the village was very small and occupied mostly by fishermen, some lodging houses and a few pubs. The area was much changed and improved by the building of the Eglinton Hotel in the mid 1860’s. This up-market establishment was on a much grander scale than any other building in the vicinity, and it attracted a different kind of tourist. It is on the left of our picture, with the small bar in front.

SHAKESPEARE, DINOSAURS, hip hop and butoh dancers were among the myriad attractions on offer during week two of the Galway Arts Festival.

ONE OF the most memorable shows of the 2007 Galway Arts Festival was Featherhead Productions’ Slat, an astonishing piece of dance theatre/performance art initially conceived by composer Trevor Knight, featuring design by artist Alice Maher, and the amazing Japanese butoh dancer Maki Wantanabe.
