There is to be a new magazine for Charlestown, and Noirin Gannon the local librarian is looking for material for it. People have until June 2013 to submit relevant material. Noirin Gannon can be contacted by calling into the library in Charlestown or contacting her on 094 925 5934. A food tasting night in Riverside, Charlestown, will take place on January 29. A great night is promised. You will be able to sample starters, main courses, and desserts from various countries.

The AGM of the John Healy Weekend takes place at 8pm on Thursday, January 24 in the Town Hall Arts Centre, Charlestown. Past and present members are asked to attend, as well as anyone interested in getting involved in this important Charlestown event.

It is hoped that classes in Irish will start up at the Charlestown community centre shortly. The classes will take place at 7.30pm and are for absolute beginners. For further information contact Noirin at 086 383 6078.

Charlestown Library are asking children to submit a spooky story (250 words) and be in for a chance of winning €1,000 worth of books for their school or library.

Children under 15 can also enter a competition to design a cover for the new edition of The Great Pig Escape by Linda Moller which will be published in spring 2009 by O’Brien Press.
