SIPTU workers picket Roadstone plant

SIPTU workers at Roadstone in Castlebar have placed an official picket at the Castlebar quarry since Monday morning this week. The picket is part of a nationawide strike against cuts to general operatives’ wages. There are 16 SIPTU members involved in the picket on the Castlebar plant. The company and the union had been involved in negotiations over the past while, however the negotiations broke down over the weekend and the picket was placed by the union workers on Monday morning and continued through to yesterday evening.

Baxter announcement sends shockwaves around Castlebar

The news that 110 jobs are to be shed by Baxter in Castlebar in the coming months, sent shockwaves through the town when news of the losses emerged late last weekend. The pharmaceutical company which has been in Castlebar since 1972 is one of the major employers in Castlebar and surrounding areas and this news will have come to a shock to hundreds of families in the county. Baxter Healthcare to temporarily lay off 150 full-time staff

Baxter Healthcare will temporarily lay off 150 full-time workers from its Castlebar plant for a four month period, it emerged this week. The US pharmaceutical company, which is the major employer in the county town and employes more than 1,000 people in its plants in Castlebar and Swinford, let 200 workers go at the end of last year due to the downturn in the economy.

Blow for Castlebar as Baxter to cut 200 jobs

Up to 200 jobs are to be lost at Baxter in Castlebar after staff at the plant were called to a meeting on Wednesday where they were informed that 150 redundancies would be sought from the 1,100 permanent employees while 50 temporary positions are also to be cut at the plant.
