Sinn Féin EU candidate Pádraig MacLochlainn has welcomed the unanimous backing of Castlebar Town Council for the ground breaking report entitled Awakening the West: Overcoming Social and Economic Inequality. This report, the first of its kind in decades, was pioneered by Sinn Féin Senator Pearse Doherty and Pádraig MacLochlainn in an effort to bring together the voices of all the disparate groups across the west of Ireland and unite them in one voice. It was compiled after a major consultation process with community groups, local businesses, chambers of commerce, and councils all along the western seaboard.

Parent assertiveness

Many children are very confident these days. Encouraging your children to be confident is important but sometimes children can easily move from confidence into trying to exert control over parents. A six week course on parent assertiveness is being held by the Family Centre at Chapel Street, Castlebar. The course will look at ways in which parents can teach children to be respectful and follow direction without allowing themselves to be compromised. The course will examine how parents can be assertive, direct, and open without being aggressive. The course runs for one night a week for six weeks starting at 8pm on Tuesday October 13.

Kingfisher Easter children’s camp

This Easter why treat your children to something different as well as their chocolate eggs and allow them to take part in the Kingfisher’s fun filled Easter camp. Children are sure to love the energetic activity-filled week at the Kingfisher health and fitness centre. The camp will run from Monday April 6 to Friday April 10 and is suitable for ages four to 12 years.

21st Century Web Design punching above its weight

A Castlebar based Mayo company is becoming a major player on the web. 21st Century Web Design has developed a sports software platform called eSports Manager. The software is used by 28 GAA County Boards, Leinster and Connaught Rugby, Ladies Gaelic and a few FAI leagues to manage their competitions, fixtures, results and communications. In 2009 Sports Manager will manage 1,800 competitions and over 33,000 fixtures in GAA alone. London GAA has just recently signed up.
