Climate change awareness events in Mayo ahead of UN Climate Conference

The UN Climate Conference in being held in Paris this December where world leaders are gathering to finalise a global agreement on climate change. Millions of people around the world are joining together the weekend before the talks begin to call on world leaders to create a low carbon, just and sustainable, future for all. In Mayo, schools, community groups, churches, businesses and members of the public will join in and ask the Government to represent us in Paris by coming to an agreement to take definite action on climate change.

Things could hardly have been tighter when all was said and done in group one of the intermediate football championship back at the tail end of June. Three of the four teams in the group were locked together on four points each with only two places in the last eight up for grabs. When the scoring differences were counted up, Moy Davitts topped the group with plus-16 points, while just a solitary point separated Belmullet and Kilmaine, with the north Mayo mens socring difference of plus-3 just edging out the south Mayo side with their plus-2.

Iorras Le Chéile Community Development Project on Main Street, Belmullet, is set to close after 13 years in operation in the Erris area. Four employees and two Rural Social Scheme workers have been served 30 days' notice. The project is managed by a local voluntary management committee with core funding from the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government.
