The changeover in development plans for Mayo has led to one Ballyhaunis couple being refused planning permission by Mayo County Council and will have consequences for other farm families applying for planning permission in the county.

A German woman who was living in Ballyhaunis was convicted of illegal dumping on a site at Clare, Claremorris, which had 70 tonnes of waste and cost Mayo County Council €10,650 to clean up. The woman was fined €1,000 plus €750 costs at Claremorris District Court this week.
