Balla and Lousiburgh book a final date

Balla and Louisburgh booked their places in the final of the Mayo Junior Football Championship on Saturday evening in MacHale Park after a double header of semi-finals in the county grounds. The first game of the evening was the meeting of last years Junior B Champions Ballycastle and Balla in a contest that went right down to the wire.

24th Balla 10k run and walk coming up

“How time flies” was the comment of Brendan Conwell as he took a break from organising the 24th edition of the famous Balla 10K which is fixed for Saturday evening July 23 at 7pm. The man behind the event since its inception in the early 90s looks back fondly on the many enjoyable but sometimes stressful moments associated with organising a highly successful annual fixture like this.

Move to improve with Mayo AC

Mayo AC have announced details of their 2014, Move 2 Improve Race Series. The club are delighted that the new series will be sponsored by C and C Cellular, continuing their involvement with the club over the past nine years.  The Move 2 Improve Series consists of six races - four 10ks, and two 8ks. These are all independently organised events with accurately measured courses, permits from Athletics Ireland and their own prize structures.

Gavin welcomes Balla footpath

Castlebar based Fianna Fáil councillor Blackie Gavin has welcomed the completion of the new link footpath between the estates of Moat and College Woods on the Castlebar road at Balla.

Balla No Name Club is hosting a gathering on Sunday, June 9, 2.30pm in the grounds of the Church of Ireland Holy Trinity Church in Balla.

Balla students successful in Fashion Flashback

The Balla Secondary School art students came joint second place in the Museum of Country life Fashion Flashback competition. The work was done in their spare time in school. They won a €40 Eason's voucher. The winners were Chloe O'Brien, Chloe Durkan, Rachel Gaughan, Rosemary Dunne, Lauren Mullaney, and Amanda Conroy. Well done also to their art teacher Ms Lisa Sherry.
