A native of the Aran islands which has produced writers Liam O Flaithearta, Máirtín Ó Direáin and Breandán Ó hEithir, Padraig is proudly bilingual both as a conversationalist and a songwriter. Efforts to increase the population of the corncrake in the west and north of Ireland appear to be paying off, with the numbers recorded in the core breeding areas of Mayo, Donegal and Galway having increased by 15% since 2022 - according to the latest survey from the National Parks and Wildlife Service - which shows an overall increase of 35% in the corncrake population in the past five years.

For 175 years the Aran Islands Lifeboat Station has covered the rugged and wild coastline of Inis Mór, Inis Meáin and Inis Oírr. While the islands provide some form of shelter for Galway Bay on the leeside, they are endlessly embattled against the Atlantic Ocean on the other.
