A more experienced Clonbur claimed this year’s Galway Ladies Intermediate Club Football Championship after defeating Annaghdown in Saturday’s final in Monivea by 5-14 to 3-7.

Corofin and Milltown have been drawn to face each other in one of the upcoming county football semi-finals, while in the other semi-final, Barna will face St Michael’s in a novel pairing after both sides had impressive victories over Caherlistrane and Annaghdown respectively last weekend.

The county senior football championship really heats up this weekend, and the last eight teams that can win the Frank Fox Cup in 2014 are all in action on either Saturday and Sunday.

Galway County athletic women’s team has qualified for the August finals of the National Track and Field League finals in Tullamore.

Last Friday saw the opening of Martin Divilly Butchers in Terryland Shopping Centre, 87 years on from the very first Martin Divilly Butchers in Galway city. Martin and Audrey along with their extended families cheered on, as Martin’s daughter Shauna Divilly cut the ribbon.

Claregalway has been chosen to run the Gaelic4Girls programme this year, and the club will host a training evening for coaches on February 27, at 7.30pm (venue to be announced).

The Irish Annals say that in 1238 a round tower was built at the monastery of Annaghdown - the last recorded construction of such a building.
