Mayo slimmers lose incredible 24.5 tons in 2016

Super slimmers in Mayo have lost a whopping 54013.25lbs (that’s 3858 stone or 24.5 tons) in weight – that’s the equivalent of 18 cars. Altogether the members of the Ballina, Ballinrobe, Ballyhaunis, Castlebar, Claremorris, Westport, and Swinford Slimming World groups are now 54013lbs lighter than they were at the beginning of 2016.

One of the most striking features is the changing demographic of what was considered to be a ‘typical’ homeless person. Ann*, a well-spoken grandmother found herself in the shocking position of becoming homeless in her late 50s.

Castlebar comes to a standstill as Ben Garrett is laid to rest

Castlebar came to a standstill on Wednesday afternoon and the business community shut their doors as the funeral of Private Ben Garrett, Kilnock, Breaffy, Castlebar, passed through the streets of the town in a military cortege before his burial in the New Cemetery in Castlebar. Private Garrett's body was found last Sunday in Galway following an 18 day search that saw hundreds of people scour the city and its surrounds on a daily basis looking for him after he was reported missing.
