Several hotels in County Galway will be giving away books next week to celebrate World Book Night.

A short movie featuring celebrities enjoying Clifden’s Abbeyglen Castle Hotel has gone viral after being shown on the famous screens in New York’s Times Square. Ryan Tubridy, Brendan Grace, Mary Kennedy, Sharon Shannon, Tony Tormey and the late Tony Fenton star in I’m a Celebrity Get Me In There promoting the historic Connemara Manor House Hotel to New Yorkers.

A fundraiser will be held at Monroe’s Tavern, Dominick Street, on Friday September 26 from 8pm to raise money for an oncology nurse who was left paralysed from the waist down following a spinal stroke earlier this year.

Meetings will take place in Galway and Clifden later this month as part of a series of events organised by Fáilte Ireland to get local communities involved in the development of a significant new driving route for the west coast.

The gates of Clifden and Connemara will be thrown wide open to RTE celebrity Ryan Tubridy when he receives the Golden Key at a ceremony this weekend.

The Abbeyglen Castle Hotel is located on the aptly named Sky Road overlooking the quaint alpine-like village of Clifden, Connemara. It is nestled in the romantic setting of the Twelve Bens with beautiful views overlooking Clifden Bay.
