Galway Community College (GCC ) continues to offer a wide range of further education business courses. The college offers Level 5 QQI accredited courses in pre-university business, marketing, and web design and a Level 6 advanced certificate in business management and accounting. These courses help students to develop crucial communication skills, presentation skills, and improved project management, while learning key IT programmes and techniques.
Students have gained employment in many local businesses and with the possibility of achieving 390 CAO points from completing a course in GCC, progression to higher education institutes becomes a reality. GCC's pre-university business course allows for progression through the CAO system, with points earned from the course, to degree programmes in GMIT, NUIG, and colleges nationwide. Studying the Level 6 advanced certificate in business management allows GCC students advanced entry directly into the second year of some GMIT programmes, with which the college holds an agreement for this advanced progression. GCC has a guidance counsellor offering advice to all students on the various routes to higher education upon completing a course.
All business courses help students to understand the latest software applications and to apply their learning in practical work placement throughout the academic year. The option of studying a further education course is now attractive to school leavers and those hoping to upskill, because the costs involved are low in comparison to going to college. The registration fee for a full-time course is €175, with a Government levy of €200, many are exempt of the levy if in receipt of a SUSI grant, hold a medical card, or BTEA allowance. Prospective students are advised to apply to SUSI, Ireland's national awarding authority for all higher and further education grants.
Centrally located at Moneengeisha Junction, with loads of facilities and supports, GCC is the place for you. It offers free parking, a student café, career guidance, supports for disability, and a friendly and inclusive environment.
