Japanese Popstars to play Cuba*

“By far the hottest thing to leave Irish shores in modern times!!” so said Our House magazine of the Japanese Popstars, who play Cuba*, Eyre Square, on Sunday August 3 at 11pm.

The Japanese Popstars - Declan McLaughlin (Decky Hedrock ), Gary Curran (DJ Curntables ), and Gareth Donoghue (Galo ) - were recently voted Ireland’s Best Live Dance Act, have won over BBC Radio’s Steve Lamacq and DJ Erol Alkan, while The Guardian advised readers to “file next to Orbital, Underworld and The Chemical Brothers”.

The trio play big room, super cool, electronic music built for festivals and stadiums, or head-twisting beats and synapse-fusing electronica, as others have described their sound.

The band’s debut album We Just Are ... has been released and already received glowing reviews from the press. “Is this the greatest record ever made or is this my imagination?” said Word. “I’m knocked out! That is a BIG BIG record! Very strong!!” declared Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1. DJ opined: “They’re gonna be riding high in the charts before long... Cut from the same cloth as Orbital and Underworld, theirs is a sky-skimming stadium-sized version: the kind of tracks built to make an entire field of ravers jump in unison. They’re something special.”

Admission is €12. Tickets will be available on the door. For more information contact 091-565991 or email [email protected]. See also www.myspace.com/thejapanesepopstars
