‘KAWAII, NE?’ is Japanese for ‘Isn’t it cute?’ and the title of a new exhibition inspired by Japanese popular culture.
Kawaii, ne?, by the award winning Galway animator John Jennings is currently running in the Galway City Library’s children’s library section until Friday June 13.
The show features hand-drawn images inspired by manga, anime, Japanese cinema, and Jpop (Japanese Pop ) music.
“Jpop music is the background music to my life”, says John. “What keeps me interested in Jpop is the link between Jpop songs and Anime films. A lot of Jpop songs are used as theme music, also some of the Jpop Idols are actors in movies I like such as Aika Ota in Tomie Unlimited.”
