More than 13,000 people have been vaccinated against swine flu in Galway, according to the HSE West.

The HSE West has reiterated its appeal to parents to make sure their children are vaccinated against measles in the wake of an outbreak of the condition in Co Galway towards the end of last year.

Some 6,000 calves born on farms in Mayo die before they reach six weeks of age, according to official figures from the Department of Agriculture.

Parents are being warned not to be complacent about the risks of swine flu because rates among children are still “extremely high”.

The swine flu vaccination clinic at Mayo General Hospital will be open on Mondays and Thursdays only from next Monday, January 18.  It is intended that some of the staff from this clinic will be redeployed to work with the school vaccination teams in Mayo.
