The Festival Big Top is set to join a list of iconic festivals that are hosting great musical talent this summer. Following their enchanting performance at this year’s Glastonbury music festival, American group Bon Iver will bring their haunting melodies from their critically acclaimed album For Emma, Forever Ago, to the Festival Big Top on Thursday, July 23 at 8.30pm. Having shared the ‘Other Stage’, one of Glastonbury’s main stages, with music greats including The Prodigy, Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party, Bon Iver’s Galway gig will offer the unique opportunity to savour the group’s acclaimed live performance in a unique setting following their sets on the stages of Glastonbury and Lollapalooza. Supporting Bon Iver at their Galway performance is Alela Diane, one of America’s most captivating contemporary singer/songwriters who has also just performed on Glastonbury’s The Park Stage. Following her performance at this years Glastonbury and having already caused a huge stir with her new release To Be Still, Alela Diane’s show with Bon Iver is the most highly anticipated musical performance in Galway this summer.

THE GALWAY ARTS Festival does not just have a Big Top. It also has a Mini Top, a specially constructed venue, located inside the Town Hall and carefully chosen to house an astounding act.

To celebrate the opening of the renovated Druid Lane Theatre, Druid will present a photographic exhibition in Artisan Restaurant, Quay Street, during the Galway Arts Festival.

“I DON’T think of our band as a folk band. I think we’re a punk rock band. We know how to have a good time on stage and off,” so declares O’Death bassist Jesse Newman.

FROM GIGANTIC toy blocks, six dancers will emerge, and through their movements they will construct and restructure the blocks in a riot of dance, movement, mystery, and imagination.

Romanian music will fill the mediaeval surrounds of St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church this Saturday at 8pm when the ConTempo Quartet and Alexander Balanescu join forces.

WEEK ONE of the Galway Arts Festival delivered some memorable productions from both home-based and visiting companies in plays that dealt with such diverse themes as familial neuroses, under-age sex, the Iraq war, murderous teenagers, and a property tycoon who wants to sing like Beniamino Gigli.

THE GALWAY Arts Festival may be over for another year, but that does not mean great music is at an end in the city. The Róisín Dubh has, as always, an impressive line up of acts during August, September, and October.

ONCE THE Galway Arts Festival is over it is time for the Galway Races, which means betting, drinking, fashion, and gee-gees, but for every Galwegian who loves the races, there is a Galwegian who would prefer to do something else.
