Disability Arts website launched by Mayo County Counci

Mayo County Council arts service have announced the launch of their new UPSTART website at www.mayo-upstart.ie. UPSTART is an initiative of Mayo County council arts service celebrating International Day of Persons with Disabilities annually in December. In an effort to document and promote the work of the UPSTART programme, Mayo County Council Arts Service has developed the UPSTART website which was designed by Brett Henning.

Write Now is a Mayo Art Service and Film Mayo event for Mayo writers that will take place on Saturday, December 9 in Breaffy House, Castlebar. In the morning there will be presentations by three professional writers; Elizabeth Reapy (fiction writer), Eugene O’Brien (screenwriter) and Eva O’Connor (playwright). This is an opportunity for established or budding Mayo writers to come along and enjoy presentations focusing on three different writing forms.

Amateur Drama Award recipients announced

The Railway Theatre Group has been awarded the Mayo County Council Amateur Drama Award for 2016, which was assessed by an external, independent, panel on the following criteria: innovation; development of excellence; quality and creativity; which improve the amateur drama sector in an area. All amateur drama groups based in the county are eligible to apply for the award of €1,000.

Tyrone Guthrie Regional Bursary Scheme recipients announced

Every year Mayo County Council offers two bursary awards to artists born or living in Mayo, to enable them to spend two weeks at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig in Monaghan. Each bursary covers the costs for a two-week period, plus the use of a studio if relevant. There are a variety of artist work spaces available including studios, a music room for composers and musicians, a multi-media room and a large rehearsal and performance space.

The Mayo Nightingale to be remembered in his home town

To celebrate the life of John ‘Jack’ Feeney, 'The Mayo Nightingale', an evening of story and song will be presented by Mayo County Council’s Arts Service and Ballina Municipal District in Swinford Cultural Centre on Friday, September 23.

Details of Mayo County Council artist awards announced

Mayo County Council Arts Office has announced the deadline for the Amateur Drama Award, Music Recording Assistance Awards, Tyrone Guthrie Regional Bursary Scheme, and an inaugural Film Mayo Tyrone Guthrie bursary. The closing date for all the above awards and bursaries is Monday October 3.

Round table for artists, makers, creatives in Ballina

This special Mayo Ideas Week session with Michael Atavar is an initiative of Mayo County Council Arts Office and Inspiration Station and will take place in The Kennedy Glasgow Centre, The Quay, Ballina, from 10am to 1pm on Wednesday, September 28. This session will be of particular interest to artists, architects, designers, craft artists, and anyone who is engaged in creative production, but it is open to everyone to attend. Mayo County Council Arts Office and Inspiration Station are delighted to host this opportunity for Mayo creatives to engage with renowned creative expert Michael Atavar, on his first visit to the west of Ireland.

EXCEL 16, Mayo County Council’s annual exuberant celebration of young people’s creativity takes place this month. A feast of events, workshops, exhibitions and showcases await this year’s young audiences, and events are happening right across the county.
