I’m speaking at an event called Student Talks in Dublin next month. The first thing I am going to quash is any notion of getting a return when you’re working for or with a startup. We’ve hyped startups up, and maybe without enough context for younger people. In my experience, you work there for the long term wins. There is no return to get, you have to build it from scratch. The less money you have, the more you work. It’s character building and an excellent learning curve.

Local hoteliers upbeat about 2016

Following a year of strong tourism growth, hotels and guesthouses in Galway are upbeat going into 2016, according to the latest quarterly barometer from the Irish Hotels Federation (IHF). Local hoteliers have benefitted from a 13 per cent increase in overseas visitors to Ireland over the last 12 months, including significant growth key markets such as North America (visitors up 13 per cent), Britain (up 11 per cent) and the rest of Europe (up 14 per cent).

Mayo based Portwest Ltd shortlisted for this year’s Deloitte’s Best Managed All-Ireland business awards

Indigenous companies are supporting the economic recovery right across Ireland, according to Deloitte. The remarks were made as the firm published the shortlist today of indigenous Irish companies which will compete to be a best managed company at the annual awards ceremony in March 2016 which included Westport based company Portwest Ltd.

Mayo County Council attends innovative tourism workshop in Dublin

Fifty Irish tourism enterprises, including Mayo County Council, got together at the Gresham Hotel in Dublin, for an innovative workshop organised by Tourism Ireland and Fáilte Ireland. The event – titled “Have you a story to tell?” – explored how tourism businesses around the country could generate more international publicity and social media exposure for themselves, and for Ireland, and ultimately increase overseas tourism business in 2016 and beyond.

Ashford Castle named worlds number one hotel by travel agency group

Ashford Castle has been voted the world's number one hotel by Virtuoso, an international network of luxury travel agencies. The announcement was made on Wednesday night at the Best of the Best awards at the annual Virtuoso Travel Week event, a luxury travel show which is taking place in Las Vegas. The annual competition recognises the travel industry’s top properties and hoteliers. This was the first time ever that an Irish hotel was nominated.
