The Cappa Ensemble brings its dazzling artistry to the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar for a wonderful classical concert on Monday November 8 at 8pm. Named after the celebrated 17th century Italian violin-maker Gioffredo Cappa, this exciting young chamber ensemble has quickly established itself as a quartet of outstanding artistry, touring extensively in Australasia and Japan as well as throughout the UK. Winner of Music Network’s Young Musicwide competition in 2009, the quartet boasts a line-up of top performers in their own right: Michael McHale (piano); cellist Brian O’Kane; violinist Bartosz Woroch; and violist Adam Newman. An exciting night in prospect, with a programme of music by Mozart, Walton, Schumann and contemporary Irish composer Elaine Agnew. Part of a Music Network tour.

Mayo singers in Galway charity concert

A Midsummer Melodies charity concert in aid of children’s cancer charity CDs Helping Hands will take place on Galway July 2 in the Galway Bay Hotel. Featuring Mayo artists and organised by JCI - part of a worldwide young people’s leadership and personal development non-profit organisation, this concert will see performances from Sean Costello – tenor, Brendan O’Byrne – pianist and musical director, Annette Griffin – Singer – harpist and entertainer, Darragh McGann - lyrical baritone, Frank Naughton - tenor, Sheelagh Chadwick – soprano, GoGoshka Kinkladze – pianist, Buck Taylor – Ballina native, and Keith McDonald. Tickets at €30 per person include a wine reception and light buffet.
