Final four spots up for grabs in Junior championship
Achill v Kilmeena
That's what we were waiting for
Now that was more like it. We asked for a performance,we wanted passion,we got them both in abundance. Mayo produced their best display in 12 months to send Ulster champions and hot favourites Tyrone packing out of this year's championship. The game was not the best advertisement for Gaelic football but it was intriguing, intense, and tactical and had everybody on the edge of their seats right until the final whistle.
Galway WFC look to build on opening day win
Galway Women's FC host their first home fixture of the new season in Eamonn Deacy Park on Saturday evening (7pm), and are urging all football supporters to support them in their quest for honours.
The Olympics doesn’t fire the imagination anymore
We tend to look at Olympic Games through the glass prism of the rose-tinted glasses. I remember seeing my first colour TV while watching the athletics at the Munich Olympics. It was the era of the flares, the locks. It was a rare look at events that happened somewhere else across the world and we were watching it. Remember these were days not long after the wonderment of the moon landings. Our brains were sponges for saturation of colour, of exoticism. The only live events on television were All-Ireland semis and finals, the FA cup finals, the European Cup finals and the Eurovision.
Westmeath’s Championship hopes end with decisive Mayo defeat
Westmeath’s Championship campaign was ended at the Round 4B qualifiers stage following an eventful encounter against Mayo at Croke Park on Saturday evening.

Rochford ready for midlanders examination
It will be 501 days since Stephen Rochford stepped out on to the field in Croke Park and raised his arms in celebration after guiding Corofin to glory in the All Ireland Senior Club Championship on Saturday. Tomorrow will mark his return to GAA headquarters as a manager, this time with the hopes of a whole county resting on his and his players' shoulders.
Galway can beat Tipperary with a consistent seventy minutes of football
The Galway footballers will head up the motorway to Jones Road this Sunday morning to face Tipperary in the All-Ireland quarter-final at Croke Park [4pm], hoping to be the first senior football team from the county to taste success at the venue since 2001.
Rochford's Mayo put in their best performance to date
Mayo put in their best 70 minutes of football under Stephen Rochford's watch to easily account for Kildare in their third round qualifier in sun drenched Elverys MacHale Park last Saturday. There is no question it had to have been the most relaxing 70 minutes Rochford has had since he took over the reins. The opposition has to be taken into account however. Kildare are no longer a force in football, they struggle to beat division four teams, they are probably the fifth best team in a Province that has only one decent team, but as the saying goes Mayo can only beat what is put in front of them.
Higgins hungry to get back to Croke Park
Mayo will be heading back to Croke Park next Saturday when they face Westmeath in the final round of the qualifiers with a place the last eight up for grabs. Keith Higgins was out to meet the press this week ahead of the game and he's looking forward to getting back to GAA HQ next weekend. "That's where everyone wants to play, we're delighted to get back there and hopefully and we'll have another day out there."
