As a year filled with dramatic twists and turns enters its final chapter Galway United’s need for a Terryland Park win is inestimable.

Reigning senior football champions Eire Og were pushed all the way by challengers Mount Leinster Rangers, in the semi final at Dr Cullen Park and had to rely on all their experience before they advanced by four points to the final in a lively encounter. Dire late late show falls flat for GAA celebration

Like many other sports fans I am a big admirer of much of the material produced in the RTE sports department on both TV and radio.

The web factor – optimising your business on the internet

There was a time when it was difficult for a small business to justify the need for a website. The World Wide Web was originally an ideal in sharing knowledge; however, business soon woke up to the opportunities. In today’s fast-paced, increasingly technological world, more online users of all ages are being targeted with advertising, while they themselves are using the web to search out information on goods and services before making purchasing decisions.

The hardest thing to do in sport is to do it again

It is suggested that trying to retain a title is one of the most difficult things to do in sport. Tyrone kick- started their campaign last Sunday and provided their thousands of supporters with sufficient evidence to suggest that they just might have to plan for a long summer following the Red Hand up and down the country after their very creditable dismantling of the current Ulster champions Armagh. The GAA hierarchy have been keeping their fingers crossed for some quality football after the debacle between Monaghan and Derry, and they got it. This was a great game of football, played by two quality teams and both teams deserve credit for contributing to a wonderful afternoon’s entertainment that made for compelling viewing.

Inspirational Buggy guides Erin's Own back to senior ranks

image preview

Erin's Own return to the senior ranks next year after defeating Danesfort by a goal in a hard-fought but most enjoyable intermediate final last Sunday. Conditions were far from ideal in Nowlan Park, strong winds prevailed throughout this encounter. but it didn't deter either side from producing some good honest action. The more rounded and experienced 'Comer side had stars all over the pitch, but none shone more brightly than my ex-intercounty colleague Davy Buggy. Davy has given many fine displays in the 'Comer jersey down through the years but this will definitely rank as one of the best and one of the most important. He will probably be first to acknowledge that he is not blessed with blinding speed, but like any good hurler, he always seems to be in the right place at the right time. The popular Buggy is widely acknowledged in hurling terms as having one of the best pairs of hands in Kilkenny. His touch, allied with a clever hurling brain, saw him rattle off 1-4 last Sunday a scoring return that did much to send 'Comer back to the senior ranks.

Colga boosted by battling point

Colga moved off the foot of the Western Hygiene Supplies Premier League thanks to a hard-earned point from Sunday’s clash with Mervue United at a bitterly cold Sullivan Park. Quite how Mervue, who played by far the better football throughout, failed to win is a mystery but sometimes skill alone is not enough as the elements certainly had their part to play in the final outcome of this game.
