Kilkenny City Harriers man, Brian Maher, had a useful workout at the Adidas Frank Duffy 10 Mile Road Race in the Phoenix Park on Saturday last. Competing over the hilly course and coping with a strong gusty wind made the running difficult and rendered time comparisons irrelevant. Maher performed well and coming home in third place he was the first of the Irish runners to cross the finish line.

Ireland finish second with help from local athletes

Three Kilkenny athletes were part of the successful Ireland team which finished second in Banka Bystrica, Slovakia, at the weekend. Eileen O’Keeffe had a season’s best of 68.25m to take second place in the hammer. Aoife Hickey finished seventh in the shot with a put of 11.86m and Joanne Cuddihy ran the second leg of the third placed 4X400m relay team.

Medals galore from Tullamore

It was an action packed weekend in the Tullamore Harriers Stadium for the under 12 to under 19 national juvenile track and field championships. The heavy rain on Saturday afternoon and the very blustery and showery weather on Sunday may have wet many but failed to dampen the spirit and enthusiasm of the athletes. With a fine haul of 17 All-Ireland medals (six gold, seven silver, and four bronze) it was a weekend to remember.
