Mayo County Council’s EXCEL 08 is a developmental programme of arts events for teenagers and young adults across the county. The programme focuses on supporting and developing the skills of young people with specific arts interests, while also providing opportunities for young Mayo people to get involved in quality arts events during the month of November, through a number of open workshops.

23k awarded to Mayo youth organisations

Three youth organisations in the Mayo area have been awarded €23,323 through the Artist in Youth Work Residency Award run by NYCI’s Youth Arts programme. Castlebar Neighbourhood Youth Project has received €10,000 to create an indoor installation in Ballyhaunis using animation and puppetry. Youthreach Kiltimagh has been awarded €6,323 to provide young people to work with two local artists to enable the group to create a performance piece based on samba drumming and costume making for the St Patrick’s Day parade, and Louisburgh Community Project has received €7,000 to interpret the life of Granuaille by creating an installation incorporating music, puppetry, movement and multi-media.
