A local city councillor and former vice chairperson of the HSE West’s regional health forum has challenged Galway’s Government TDs to honour a commitment they gave to seek a meeting with Health Minister Dr James Reilly about the need to keep St Francis’ Nursing Home open.

The level of public support for St Francis nursing home was further illustrated this week with the announcement that the campaign has collected more than 16,000 signatures. The Keep St Francis Nursing Home Open Campaign also has the support of all five local TDs and Senator O’Clochartaigh who attended a public meeting at the Westwood Hotel to try and secure the future of the Upper Newcastle facility.

Tomorrow (Friday July 15 ) evening The Westwood will join forces with Cancer Care West in a joint effort to raise much needed funds for the charity. Tickets for the night will be priced at €20 and will include barbecue, music and late bar.

Local business, Screenway Computers, has come up with a unique fundraising scheme for Cancer Care West. It is going to giveaway printer and photocopier toners for free on its website www.screenway.ie or from its showroom in Dangan and in exchange encourage people to make a donation to Cancer Care West.

The western branch of the Coeliac Society of Ireland is inviting coeliacs, their families and friends to attend an Easter themed cookery demonstration on Monday April 4 at the Westwood Hotel, Newcastle. Registration is at 7pm.
