Hurling takes centre stage this week with the two hurling semi-finals down for decision.

The first of the quarter-finals in this year’s Westmeath senior football championship saw Tyrrellspass prove too strong for an Athlone side that were far too slow out of the blocks in Moate last Sunday evening.

Aer Lingus in partnership with Etihad Airways, will host the first ever International Hurling Festival in Galway this September. As part of the festival, The Hurling Club of Buenos Aires will travel to Westmeath to play a Westmeath selection in Cusack Park, Mullingar on Tuesday September 17 at 6pm.

Architects contracted by the county board to design the new €3.5m main stand at Cusack Park confirmed they could be applying for planning permission before this year’s county championship is completed.
