An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, has urged local organisations in Mayo who are working with victims of crime to apply for the 2017 Victims of Crime Funding Scheme. He said: "This week, my colleague, the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality, Frances Fitzgerald, announced the 2017 Victims of Crime Office funding scheme for organisations working with victims of crime. The work that these organisations do, here in Mayo and across the country, to reduce the trauma experienced by victims of crime and to help them to move on with their lives is vital. Council chief hopeful of 'positive' outcome for Killala plant

The chief executive of Mayo County Council said this week that he was  "hopeful you would see a positive result" for the examinership process that the Mayo Renewable Power project is currently undergoing. This summer the High Court appointed Michael McAteer of Grant Thornton as interim examiner to Mayo Renewable Power, which had planned to build a wood-chip burning electricity generator at Killala at a cost of €180 million.

Two NUI Galway buildings vie for national awards

The recently completed Mayo Medical Academy building is shortlisted for the Heritage and Conservation Award, while the Clinical and Translational Research Facility has been shortlisted for the prestigious title of Engineering Project of the Year, which will be decided by public vote.
