One hundred more people added to the live register in Mayo

New figures released this week by the Central Statistics Office show that 103 more people in Mayo are on the live register since last month, bringing the figure to 12,231 people registered which is a 4,203 increase from statistics released this time last year.

AIB Build a Bank

The regional finals of AIB’s Build a Bank Challenge 2009 will take place over the coming weeks with 11 schools in Mayo participating. One of them will go on to compete in the national final in Croke Park in May, when the 2009 Build a Bank Challenge winners will be crowned.

Mellett welcomes decision to keep public payphones

Eircom has today confirmed to the Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council Cllr Joe Mellett that a number of payphones in east Mayo will be retained. This comes following numerous representations outlining the gravity of removing the public payphones. The service will remain at Charlestown, Bellaghy, Kiltimagh, Kilkelly, and Foxford for a further 12 months. They have also agreed to retain one of the kiosks at the courthouse in Swinford.

Fianna Fáil’s John Caulfield has launched his election campaign in the Swinford electoral area. A native of Kilmovee but now living in Kilkelly, a town starved of council representation since the 1960s, John’s campaign launch was well attended with endorsements from outgoing MEP Sean O Neachtain, Senator John Carty, Dara Calleary TD and former ICMSA President Pat O’Rourke.
