The public have been warned to be on the alert for a major phone scam that has been ongoing over the past while. The crooks involved are ringing people, who will hear distressed screaming or shouting in the background. The line then goes dead. If the number is called back, it can drain the victim's phone of top-up credit, or add a large fee to the phone bill.

Revenue warns of e-mail seeking personal information

The Revenue Commissioners have warned of the existence of a fraudulent e-mail purporting to come from Revenue seeking personal information from taxpayers in connection with a tax refund. The e-mail asks the recipient to submit personal details including date of birth and debit/credit card details. This e-mail did not issue from Revenue.
