Over 160 people joined Galway Simon Community for their first ever Dip at Dawn event in Salthill last week. The event was organised on the longest day of the year as an act of solidarity with the almost 10,000 people in emergency accommodation across the country and the many more hidden homeless and in homeless services.
Local homeless charity Galway Simon Community is calling on landlords to consider accepting HAP (Housing Assistant Payment) from people accessing their services who are struggling to find rental properties under the scheme. The appeal comes as the Simon Communities study Locked Out of the Market IX, released this week, found that there were no properties available in Galway City within the Rent Supplement/HAP limits.
The Skeff Late Bar & Kitchen presented a cheque for €600 to Galway Simon Community after wrapping up their Soup for Simon campaign. During October the proceeds from soup sales for one week at The Skeff were donated to the local charity.

The A Capella Knights are set to host their Christmas concert ‘White Christmas: An Eclectic Mix of Festive Favourites’ next Friday, December 4, in the Galway Cathedral at 7:45pm in aid of Galway Simon Community.
