In last week’s issue of the Mayo Advertiser (January 16, 2015) on page two we carried a story titled “Confusion in council chamber over vote on Irish Water motion.” Due to an editorial error, we failed to include a second amendment to the motion referred to in the article put forward by Cllr Lisa Chambers. We repeated the initial amendment put forward by Cllr Al McDonnell by error and attributed it to Cllr Chambers.

The application by a single company, BioAtlantis Teo, for exclusive rights to cut and harvest seaweed in Clew Bay has sparked major fears among local farmers who have traditionally cut seaweed in the area. Mayo County Council vote to lower LPT by three per cent

At last Monday’s meeting of Mayo County Council the elected members of the council voted to lower the local property tax by three per cent. The lowering of the rate will in 2015 save homeowners between €2.70 and €6.75 in total over the year, but will leave a hole in the council’s overall budget of €321,000 which must be met by the council’s own resources.
