Hailed as “the future of Irish comedy”, Andrew Maxwell is a big favourite on the Irish and UK comedy circuit. And now he’s returning to Roscommon Arts Centre on Wednesday June 9.

Described as “a surreal tale of love and death set on a County Louth beach during World War II”, Conall Quinn’s new play follows the hopes and dreams of a trio of characters and their fascination with the washed-up remains of fallen American airmen.

Roscommon Arts Centre is seeking submissions from artists working in all mediums who wish to be considered for its 2011 visual art programme. Patrick Murphy from the RHA Gallery will shortlist artists for studio visits and select the final programme.

The Minutae exhibition, curated by Linda Shevlin and showcasing the work of Oisín Byrne and Suki Chan, runs in Roscommon Arts Centre until March 31.

As part of Roscommon Arts Centre’s Reel Thing programme of traditional Irish music and entertainment, the centre is offering a new opportunity for children and young people to learn to play the tin whistle or fiddle, under the guidance of well-known traditional musicians and teachers Fiona Doherty and John Wynne.

Filmed, a new initiative of Roscommon Arts Centre, presents an eclectic mix of films selected specifically for secondary school students (senior cycle and transition year). In conjunction with the Irish Film Institute, the Arts Centre is offering this exciting and educational six-week film programme throughout November and December. Introducing Irish-made films, foreign language films, historical documentaries, and a presentation by the award-winning Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon, many of the selected films are accompanied by study guides.

An exhibition of selected works from the collection of Limerick City Gallery of Art opens on Saturday November 8 at Roscommon Arts Centre. The exhibition which can be viewed during box office opening hours continues until December 13.

Shortly after returning from their tour of Romania and Bulgaria, Tall Tales Theatre Company take to the Irish stage this December with another Irish Premiere, Maisy Daly’s Rainbow - a wizardly fusion of dance and theatre that offers something very different and special for all the family to enjoy during the Christmas season. They perform two shows at Roscommon Arts Centre on Saturday December 20 at 1pm and 4pm.
