Before Cllr Joe Mellett had even handed over the Cathaoirleach’s chain to incoming Cathaoirleach for the next 12 months, Cllr John Cribben, independent Castlebar based Cllr Frank Durcan fired his first warning shot across the bows of the new council. The members of the Claremorris electoral area committee threw their support behind a motion from Independent Councillor Richard Finn that called on Mayo County Council to offer its full support for the proposed new Bio-spark plant in the town.

The towns of Ballinrobe and Claremorris were given a boost in the run up to Christmas this week, with the news that both towns will see free parking introduced in a number of areas in the towns for the festive season.
