RTÉ All Ireland Drama Festival officially launched

The 2011 RTÉ All Ireland Drama Festival was officially launched at the Abbey Theatre on Wednesday night at a glittering reception attended by Minister for Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht Affairs, Jimmy Deenihan. Guests also included Judge Bryan McMahon, chairman of the Board of the Abbey Theatre and RTÉ director general Noel Curran, as well as representatives from the participating groups, the festival’s organising committee, and other drama personalities. The event renews links with the National Theatre which go back to the early days of the festival when many Abbey notables adjudicated at or officially opened the festival.

Information session for 2011 Galway Film Centre/RTÉ Short Film Awards

Galway Film Centre, in collaboration with RTÉ, has announced that Friday March 11 will be the deadline for this year’s Short Film Awards. Two scripts will be selected from the submissions received and the two winning entries will each receive a sum of €9,500 to make their film. In addition Galway Film Centre will provide equipment and facilities and RTÉ will screen the finished film. Skinner scriptwriter to give TV workshop in Galway

John Murphy, a consultant for BBC, TG4, TV3 and RTÉ, who has worked with Bob Monkhouse, Cilla Black, Frank Skinner, and Gay Byrne, will be giving a workshop in the Galway Film Centre.

Classical concert at the Linenhall

Critically acclaimed Irish cellist Gerald Peregrine and pianist Cathal Breslin perform a programme of much-loved cello works at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Thursday September 10 at 8pm. Young classical stars in the ascendant, Gerald and Cathal are both laureates of the Royal College of Music in London, former Fulbright scholars and recipients of National Concert Hall Rising Star debut recitals. Au pair family needed

The Director of Cara International — a local au pair and work and travel agency based in west of Ireland — Caroline Joyce, has recently secured a contract with RTÉ to film an au pair/family placement in a serious called Find Me a Family. This au pair would need to be starting in a family in November.
