National Pilgrim Path event to include Easter Monday Tóchar walk

Easter weekend has again been designated Ireland's second National Pilgrim Paths event with a nationwide series of walks planned along all of the country's major medieval penitential walkways. To coincide with this event part of Tóchar Phádraig - the ancient Pilgrim Path between Ballintubber and Croagh Patrick - will be walked on Easter Monday April 6 from Aughagower to Ballintubber Abbey. Croagh Patrick climb raises funds for Hospice

Last September, in conjunction with the Marie Keating Foundation, a climb of Croagh Patrick was organised by a team of volunteers. The event was followed by refreshments, and music by local musicians at Carrowleg Cottage, Kilmeena. The proceeds from the event were donated to local deserving causes including the Mayo-Roscommon Hospice where a syringe driver was purchased for the charity. Apart from the fundraising aspects of the venture, many friendships have been forged and links between Clare, Mayo, and Galway have been made.

Thousands to flock to Croagh Patrick for Reek Sunday

Upwards of 30,000 pilgrims are expected to flock to Croagh Patrick on Sunday for the annual Reek Sunday pilgrimage on the holy mountain. While the thousands of pilgrims make their way up the mountain, the Mayo Mountain Rescue team will be co-ordinating a massive effort on the ground to ensure that any climbers who get into difficulty on the mountain will be quickly taken off the slope.
