Mayo clubs in Connacht Junior Cup action

A total of 16 Mayo teams will be in action in the Connacht Junior Cup this Sunday with all ties kicking off at 2pm. Bangor Hibs, Clew Bay United, Conn Rangers, Ballyheane, Glenhest Rovers, Snugboro United, Fahy Rovers, Kilmore, Ballyvary Blue Bombers, and Ballyglass will all be in action at home. With Killala, Partry Athletic, Newport Town, Ballina United, Moy Villa, and Straide and Foxford United all hitting out across the province in search of a place in the next round. Charlestown Athletic will make the trip to Ballyheane in a local derby as will Achill Rovers who head to Snugboro United, Mulranny United will go to Fahy Rovers as do Hollister who have a short trip to Kilmore, and Crossmolina who go to south Mayo to face Ballyglass.

Super League enters final four game stretch

The Elverys Sports Super League will enter its final four game stretch this weekend with Castlebar Celtic looking to stay the course to the title over the last handful of games. Declan Kilkelly’s side are currently five points in front of second placed Claremorris, they kept the gap open thanks to coming out on the right side of an odd goal in seven encounter with bottom of the table Ballinrobe Town last weekend in Celtic Park. Celtic raced into a two goal lead early on only to be hit for three in a row by Ballinrobe, before goals from Stevie Gavin and Ger O’Boyle saw them win through at the end. On Sunday, Celtic will make the short hop to the Sportspark to take on Westport United at 2.30pm.

Connacht Gold Cup action takes centre stage

Following on from Glenhest Rovers win in the McDonnell Cup final last weekend and round of action in the Super League which saw Castlebar Celtic keep staking their claim for the title, it is back to cup action for most of the sides in the Mayo League this weekend.

Connacht Road Race League powers on

Round five of the league took place recently in Ballinrobe with 45 cyclists from around the province racing over a 34 mile lap around Lough Mask. A 10 minute handicap separated the groups from front to back. The scratch group consisted of inform Charles Prendergast, Cunga CC, and Dave Brennan, Castlebar.

Lap of the Mask a big success

A large group of leisure cyclists took on the 64k lap around Lough Mask last Saturday. This was the fifth annual running of Western Lakes Cycling Club’s Lap of the Mask, which raised funds for the Cystic Fibrosis West Building Fund.

Lap of the Mask leisure cycle

As the leisure cycle season gets under way in earnest in the month of May, Western Lakes Cycling Club in Ballinrobe is getting ready for the Lap of the Mask, its first big leisure cycling event of the summer. A large crowd is expected to attend this year’s event, which takes place tomorrow (Saturday). Last year’s Lap of the Mask saw a 150 strong crowd complete the 64km circuit around the lake.
