Ruane to step away from politics leaving a hole for SF to fill in county town

Sinn Féin Councillor, Thérèse Ruane has announced that she will not be contesting the next local elections and is to step down as a Mayo County Councillor at the end of this year. Ruane was first elected to Castlebar Town Council in 2009 having be co-opted on to the council to replace Noel Campbell, she subsequently won that seat in the next Town Council elections and in 2014 was elected a member of Mayo County Council in the Castlebar Municipal District getting 1,375 first preference votes and taking the third seat in the district. She was also part of two person Sinn Fein ticket in the 2011 general election where she was given 2,142 first preference votes.

Wild Atlantic Words rolls back into Castlebar

Step back in time with the Bonamh Market in Castlebar

After the success of the last two years' Bonamh Market in Castlebar, the organisers are delighted to announce that this year will be a two-day event. The fun starts on the evening of Friday August 19 at 8pm with the Piggy Grand Prix, followed by live music. The market will take place once again in Rush Street. The market is being run in association with Mayo Heritage Week, the 1916 Commemoration, Gnó Mhaigh Eo, and by Craftworks Mayo to showcase the best of Mayo products.

Saturday Forum is off to the movies

Budding film producers take note. This week’s Saturday Forum, April 30 on CRC 102.9fm is off to the movies. Presenter Noel Campbell will be joined in studio by Orlagh Heverin, writer/director and assistant arts officer with Mayo County Council, and Keith Heneghan, photography graduate and filmmaker with Mayo based firm Arasure Visuals.
