Mullingar Shamrocks again highlighted their intent for the year with a 3-19 to 1-8 hammering of Maryland. Bunbrosna edged out Athlone by a point in a low scoring affair in Moate while Garrycastle had little trouble in seeing off the challenge of a disappointing Downs side.

Athlone and Moate schools make final in the Midlands Science Competition

Science is alive and well in primary education in the Westmeath with two local schools making it to the finals of the Midlands Science competition. The Midlands Science Competition was open to primary schools in Longford, Westmeath, Offaly, and Laois. The competition was organised by Tullamore-based development agency Atlantic Corridor and it is sponsored by Ericsson, the world’s leading provider of technology and services to telecom operators.

Seachtain na Gaeilge i gContae na hIar Mhí

Seachtain na Gaeilge, which runs from March 5 to 17, is a celebration of Irish language, culture, and heritage. It offers the chance for people to practice their cúpla focail, to celebrate ‘leabhar power’ by reading books as Gaeilge, or even to try a language course. Westmeath Libraries are proud to support Seachtain na Gaeilge with a wide range of events.
